Hello, and thank you for checking in on the University of Utah Ski Team via our email newsletter.
The NCAA Skiing Championships is right around the corner and the team is looking good with many having there best results of the year each time they race. We are headed in the right direction to climb the podium and compete at our best in Maine on the Cross Country ski trails at Black Mountain and on the Alpine Hill at Sunday River March 11 to the 14th.
The Skiing Utes were in Winter Park the first weekend in February at the Denver University Invitational where we ended up third even though we were missing 3 of our big point getters due to sickness, Kyle Kung (AL), Sara Schweiger (XC), and Annelise Cook (XC). Highlights of the weekend in Winterpark were Nick Cohee Alpine freshman winning both the GS races and Even Sletten Cross Country senior winning the Classic 10k, both showing us they are ready for the Big Show.
The team is in Reno this weekend competing at the Western Regional's. The Alpine team racing at Mount Rose and the Cross Country team on the trails at the Auburn Ski Club at the summit of Donner Pass. We are on an upward trend for results and I know this weekend will catapult us to NCAA’s! Go Utes

DU Invitation Men’s Skate Mass Start February 7, 2009

Action from the DU Invitational Alpine races in Winterpark. Thanks Tague Thorson for the pictures!
Quotes from athletes on there races at the DU Invitational:
Thomas Zumbrunn (Alpine Team - Senior)
There was a great competition in hard conditions going on and we could see that if we put two runs down, the whole team is competitive and we are able to keep up with everyone else.
Nick Cohee (Alpine Team - Freshman)
It was the first time I have ever skied Winterpark without having to deal with below zero temperatures and snowy conditions. I completed the DU Invite with back to back GS wins, which solidified my lead in the overall going into NCAA champs, so I was pretty stoked.
Zoe Roy (Cross Country Team - Sophmore)
The races in Winter Park went well, the courses were fun and challenging, and it showed that our training is taking us in the right direction. The high altitude always makes it a little difficult, but its the same for everybody!
Ben Fick (Cross Country Team - Junior)
The classic race was good. You just had to ski the right line and know when to get in and out of the tracks. Strong double-pole was the key.
